What's it like to work in 'Business Development'?
I work at Palantir Technologies within the Business Development team.
I work at Palantir in the London office, which I joined in 2022.
β³ Hours
The work hours can vary depending on the clients you are dealing with on a given day. It is your job to best serve the customer, and so this can mean varied and long hours at times, but generally, we follow the standard tech industry hours of 9am - 6pm.
My team consists of around 40 people, spread out between Europe and the US, and we work very closely with the US-based team members. This means accommodating for the time zone changes.
ποΈ Typical day-to-day tasks
My role is mostly client-facing, with around 80% of my job spent interacting with customers to help solve their current problems.
The other 20% involves internal tasks, such as developing and building internal tools that will help me and my team manage client requests more effectively.
My role includes a lot of calls, emails, and back-and-forth conversations. A key aspect of the role is developing and nurturing business relationships.
Note: My role doesn't require me to go on-site to clientsβI am able to communicate and handle their requests remotely from the London office.
πͺ Expected career progression
I want to advance my knowledge and move towards the strategic side of businesses. This would mean taking on more high-level responsibility, helping clients and internal teams perform more effectively.
Specialist knowledge and expertise in a specific vertical or industry are highly valued at the firm. Gaining this expertise allows for more responsibility and authority when dealing with relevant clients.
I have a previous background in finance, and I hope that my industry knowledge will be helpful when working with financial services clients. My goal is to better understand how Palantir's technology can be applied to their use cases.
